7 Signs You Are in a Properly Run Spa

By SpaPeep

You can usually tell within five minutes. Here is what to look for.

1. They ask about your health before they touch you

A form or a proper verbal check — injuries, surgery, allergies, pregnancy, medication. This is not bureaucracy, it is basic safety. Its absence tells you a lot.

2. The pricing is written down and complete

A visible menu with clear durations and prices, and a straight answer to "is that the final amount?". Professional businesses have nothing to hide about money.

3. They will show you the room

Ask to see it. Fresh linen, clean floor, decent ventilation, a door that closes properly. Any confident spa says yes immediately.

4. Linen is changed in front of you

Fresh sheets and towels for each client, ideally brought out as you enter. This is the clearest hygiene signal there is.

5. They drape you properly

You stay covered throughout, with only the area being worked on uncovered, re-covered before moving on. This is the professional standard everywhere in the world. A spa that does not follow it is not one to stay in.

6. Therapists are introduced and their training is known

You should be able to find out who is treating you and roughly what their background is. Good spas volunteer this.

7. It looks like a normal business

Ordinary opening hours, a proper reception, a visible name board, findable contact details, a business registration. Wellness is a normal service industry and legitimate spas present like one.

Warning signs — leave

  • Prices that change once you are inside
  • Reluctance to show you the treatment room
  • No health questions at all
  • Evasive answers about what a treatment involves
  • Anything said or implied that makes you uncomfortable
  • Pressure to buy add-ons once you are on the table

You do not owe anyone an explanation. Get dressed and go.

If something goes wrong

Report it — to the spa's management first, and to the listing platform if you found them online. On SpaPeep you can flag a listing through the contact form, and we investigate. That feedback is how bad operators get removed.

Frequently asked questions

What are the warning signs of a bad spa?

Vague pricing, no health form, reluctance to show you the treatment room, unclear answers about therapist training, no visible business registration, or anything that makes you uncomfortable. Any one of these is enough to walk out.

Should a spa ask about my health?

Yes. A short health form or a verbal check about injuries, allergies, pregnancy and medical conditions is standard professional practice and directly affects your safety.

Can I leave if I feel uncomfortable?

Always. You can end a session at any point, for any reason, without explanation. A legitimate business will accept that without argument.
